2006

The Coalition for Citizen Diplomacy held its very first National Summit on Citizen Diplomacy in Washington, D.C. July 12-14, 2006. The Summit occurred in conjunction with the Sister Cities International 50th Anniversary Conference and represented the focal point of the Coalition’s national campaign to increase dramatically the ability of Americans to engage with the global community through people-to-people contacts that foster international dialogue and exchanges. The National Summit gave visibility and voice to organizations and American citizen diplomats around the country who are committed to building a world of peace, mutual respect and mutual understanding through greater global interaction. The National Summit was preceded by a series of Community Summits, whose findings and local action plans serve as the building blocks for a National Action Plan and National Report on the Future of Citizen Diplomacy issued by the Coalition to the Congress, the administration, state and local elected officials, and the American public.
